Advanced Training
Our industry can be very competitive and sometimes up-skilling yourself can set yourself apart from other pilots. Get in touch with us to add to your skill set.
Night Rating
Allows you to fly within 25nm of a lit aerodrome at night. This rating allows you to provide frost protection, a great way for pilots to build night time
Sling Rating
A sling rating is mandatory for a Commercial Pilot Licence. It allows you to carry underslung loads for hire or reward. If you want to be a long-line pilot, consider some recurrent sling training with our instructors that have real world precision placement experience
A sling rating can add to your Private Pilot Licence nicely, allowing you to carry underslung loads for private use. Learning to sling dramatically increases your skills as a pilot
Mountain Flying
New Zealand has some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. With that beauty comes a lot of hazards and traps for inexperienced pilots - you really shouldn't skimp on your mountain training! Our South Island base is right at the foot of Southern Alps, so your time in the mountains is maximised without any ferrying just to get to the mountains.
With NZHTA, you will get the opportunity to train in the rugged peaks of the Southern Alps but also the bush covered mountains of the North Island's Ruahine and Kaimanawa Ranges. Our instructors operate commercially in the mountains on a daily basis and know these mountains like the back of their hands. Our mountain flying will arm you with the skills and confidence to fly in a mountainous environment.
Consider some extra time flying in the mountains or recurrent training if its been a while!
